Report title: Intelligent oncology - from underlying logic to clinical application
Speaker: Professor Xu Bo
Unit: Chongqing University
Reporting time: July 17, 2026 14:00-15:00
Reporting location: Room 1717, Linjiang Building
Moderator: Xu Jun, Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology
Report Summary
This report will systematically elaborate on the development context, underlying logic, basic theory and clinical application transformation of “intelligent oncology”, an interdisciplinary field of medicine and engineering. It focuses on introducing original theoretical frameworks from macroscopic and microscopic mapping mechanisms, single-cell pathology omics to weakly correlated event enhancement, and demonstrates the typical applications of artificial intelligence technology in early digestive tract cancer screening, lung cancer CT non-invasive classification, rapid pathological interpretation of breast cancer, pan-cancer BRCA mutation prediction, and neoadjuvant efficacy evaluation of rectal cancer. In addition, the “Lingmo” pathology large model and the MDT Copilot swarm intelligence platform will be shared to explore a new paradigm of AI-enabled precise diagnosis and treatment of tumors.
Brief introduction of the reporter
Xu Bo graduated from Peking Union Medical College (Ph.D. in clinical medicine in 1998). He is currently Hongshen Distinguished Professor of Chongqing University, Executive Director of Chongqing Oncology Institute, Distinguished Overseas High-Level Talent Expert of the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Chongqing Talents and Outstanding Scientist. He also serves as the Director of the Intelligent Oncology Medical Basic Research Innovation Center of the Ministry of Education and the first chairman of the Cancer Artificial Intelligence Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association. He has been working in the United States for 20 years and served as professor of radiation oncology at the Methodist Hospital of Cornell University Medical College, professor of pathology at the University of Alabama, and director of the Department of Oncology at the Southern Research Institute. After returning to China full-time, he successively served as deputy director of Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital and director of Chongqing University Affiliated Cancer Hospital. He systematically proposed the “intelligent oncology” subject system, founded the English journal “Intelligent Oncology” and served as editor-in-chief. In 2025, he was elected as the chairman of the Global Intelligent Oncology Alliance. He has long been focusing on the cross-application of genome stability and artificial intelligence in tumor diagnosis and treatment. He has presided over 8 projects funded by the US NIH and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has published more than 130 papers, which have been cited more than 16,000 times, with an H-index of 54. The journal “Intelligent Oncology” he founded was selected as a high starting point journal in the China Science and Technology Journal Excellence Action Plan.
