The Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Intelligent Medical Image Computing signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Institute of Instrumentation, Biomedical Engineering and Radiation Physics of the New University of Lisbon in Portugal to establish the Sino-European Institute of AI in Medicine (SEAM), which was officially unveiled in Nanjing on October 28, 2024. This milestone moment brings new opportunities for the integrated development of medicine and artificial intelligence. It will also effectively promote comprehensive cross-field cooperation between Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology and well-known European universities, top research institutes and excellent industry incubators.
The establishment of SEAM will not only promote the exchange of scientific researchers and the cultivation of high-level talents between China and Europe, but also implement in-depth cooperative research, development and technology transformation in a series of key areas. SEAM focuses on the sensing and processing of multi-source heterogeneous physiological signals based on wireless sensors, especially non-invasive wearable physiological signals as the entry point, supplemented by environmental sensing signal perception, so as to achieve collaborative sensing and applications. The core objects of research include not only traditional physiological signals such as electrocardiogram, electromyography, and brain waves, but also involve emerging fields of human physiological perception, such as eyes, stomach, skin, etc. SEAM will also rely on the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Medical Image Computing’s rich experience in analyzing two-dimensional image signals and structured data to study multi-source heterogeneous data application methods for wearable + images, paving a “China-Europe path” for data diversity collection, processing, modeling and application of medical artificial intelligence. In terms of industry, academia and research, SEAM is committed to developing multi-dimensional physiological signal acquisition equipment and intelligent auxiliary decision-making that are non-invasive, highly integrated, wearable and convenient, small in size, excellent signal quality, and stable in transmission, and linked with video sensing to achieve an integrated big data collection solution and platform.
