Basic overview of Key Laboratory of Intelligent Medical Image Computing

The Jiangsu University Key Laboratory of Intelligent Medical Image Computing is a provincial and ministerial scientific research platform of Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology. It was founded in 2021 and was approved for construction in June 2024. Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology is the supporting unit for laboratory construction, and three hospitals in Jiangsu Province: Zhongda Hospital Affiliated to Southeast University, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, and Jiangsu Provincial People’s Hospital are co-construction units. The laboratory aims at new concepts, new technologies, and new methods in the interdisciplinary fields of artificial intelligence, information science, and medicine. It is committed to using advanced artificial intelligence and information science methods to explore and solve scientific problems in the cutting-edge fields of medicine and health, aiming to create a first-class domestic and internationally renowned cutting-edge and interdisciplinary research platform. The laboratory has carried out long-term strategic cooperation with well-known hospitals or universities at home and abroad, sharing the core concept of “originating from clinical, higher than clinical, empowering clinical, and returning to clinical”. In addition to cutting-edge scientific research, the laboratory also shoulders the mission of cultivating high-level talents from undergraduates to master’s and doctoral students. It is responsible for the training of undergraduates in medical information engineering and related majors, as well as the training of master’s and doctoral students in the professional field of electronic information (biomedical engineering) and related majors and directions.

The laboratory has hired more than 30 medical experts, including Academician Teng Gaojun, as doctoral and master’s degree supervisors, and has jointly established a medical engineering tutor group with the engineering expert team of Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology to jointly guide graduate students. The laboratory has a high-level, young and energetic research team with an international perspective. The core members of the laboratory come from diverse sources. More than 90% of the team members graduated from the world’s top 200 top universities in China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore and other countries, and most of them have overseas study or visiting experience. The core members of the laboratory have recently published many academic papers in influential magazines such as Nature, Science, PNAS, Radiology, IEEE Trans. on Medical Imaging, Medical Image Analysis, etc. He presides over major disease projects, joint key projects, and general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China; key special projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s key research and development plans, provincial and ministerial-level projects, and participates in major research plans and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
