The Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Intelligent Medical Image Computing (IMIC) was founded in 2021 and formally approved for development in June 2024. Professor Jun Xu serves as Laboratory Director.
Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (NUIST) is the host institution. Zhongda Hospital Southeast University, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, and Jiangsu Province Hospital are co-founding clinical partners.
Mission
IMIC works at the frontier of artificial intelligence, information science, engineering, and medicine. We identify important scientific questions in medicine and health, advance fundamental methodology, and translate discoveries into clinical value.
Inspired by the clinic, elevated beyond the clinic, empowering the clinic, and returning to the clinic.
Research capabilities
We study cross-scale, multimodal data including high-resolution whole-slide pathology images, X-ray, CT, multiparametric MRI, PET, electronic health records, clinical text, multi-omics, and physiological signals.
Our methods span quantitative image analysis, natural language processing, signal processing, machine learning, multimodal artificial intelligence, and medical-device development.
Education and team
The laboratory educates students from undergraduate through doctoral level. Engineering and clinical supervisors jointly mentor graduate students. More than 90% of the core team graduated from globally ranked universities, and most have international study or research experience.
Facilities
IMIC operates dedicated high-performance computing infrastructure for deep learning and large-model training. Imaging facilities include a Leica GT450 high-throughput whole-slide scanner and an in-house micrometer-resolution optical coherence tomography (μOCT) system.
